Memorial to footballing great, Bill Shankly unveiled
at his Ayrshire mining village home, Glenbuck
on what would have been his 101st birthday.
The Bill Shankly memorial was unveiled by
Liverpool FC legends, Alan Kennedy and Roy Evans.
Trico VE fabricated and finished the panels in 1.6mm enamel-grade steel
to the artwork for Seelevel Design for 71 panels in red, black and grey.
Trico also provided two 3D inset panels which stand proud of the surface and
present black & white photos, one showing Bill Shankly during a training session.
Designed by artist John Crosby, with some help from pupils at nearby
Muirkirk Primary School, the memorial won the publicly-funded
commission held by East Ayrshire Council after impressing their
members’ panel which included Shankly’s niece Barbara Alexander.
Enamelling public art has been done several times by Trico VE which rises
to the challenge. Trico is delighted the result is so successful and popular.
See below to watch the stages of manufacture: Assembling fabricated
steel panels before enamelling, re-assembled panels after enamelling,
the constructed support frame and enamelled
panels being mounted on the frame.
